Status of Biosafety Education, Training and Capacity Building in Sri Lanka

An Expert Consultation process was conducted by the Biodiversity secretariaton 27th March 2012,at Hotel TajSamudra, to establish baseline data on the status of biosafety education and training in Sri Lanka. Specific objective was to finalize the biosafety education, training and capacity building (BETAC);to identify gaps, identify general and specific strategies in formal and non formal education sectors. This was carried out with the Consultant, Prof AthulaPerera, Senior Professor with the participation of National Institute of Education, various universities, research institutes and other relevant institutes. A report will be prepared based on these out comes, and will be forwarded to relevant institutes and the Ministry is expected to work with them closely, with the National Institute of Education, Ministry of Higher Education,and Postgraduate Institutes/Faculties to fill the gaps in basic and direct education of BETAC in primary, secondary and university education through improvement of existing curricula and introducing new curricula.
